Rafael de la Dehesa is an Associate Professor in the Sociology and Anthropology Department at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, since 2004. He is also a doctoral faculty member in the Sociology Program at the CUNY Graduate Center. His research focuses on queer and feminist activisms in Latin America, transnational social movements, and reproductive politics. He holds a BA from the University of Texas, two MAs from Brown University and Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in Government from Harvard University.
His scholarship includes the award-nominated book Queering the Public Sphere in Mexico and Brazil: Sexual Rights Movements in Emerging Democracies (Duke University Press, 2010), co-edited volumes on Sexuality and Politics (2014), and articles in Feminist Studies, Signs, and Global Public Health. Current research explores state roles and transnational networks in Brazil’s reproductive governance.
