Victoria Hesford is an Associate Professor in the Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Stony Brook University's College of Arts and Sciences. Her research examines how political movements are mediated through mass culture in 20th-21st century America, particularly focusing on fantasies of collectivity and belonging within feminist and queer political movements.
Research interests include:
- Gender, sexuality, queer and feminist theory
- U.S. queer and feminist history
- Postwar popular and mass culture
- Critical theory and cultural mediation of political projects
Her publications explore feminist historiography, cultural representations of feminism, and the intersection of politics and emotion. Articles consistently engage with themes of temporality, mass media representation, and the construction of political subjectivity through cultural frameworks. Recent works demonstrate sustained focus on feminist cultural production in the 1970s and queer exceptionalism in literature.
Awards include being a finalist for the 2014 Lambda Literary Awards in Nonfiction for her book Feeling Women's Liberation.
