Dr. Deborah Anderson is Professor in the Division of Oncology at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Medicine and Senior Research Scientist/Director of Research at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Leads investigations into molecular pathways controlling cancer metastasis.
Research Focus: Metastasis suppressor mechanisms, particularly CREB3L1 function in breast and lung cancers; PI3K/PTEN pathway regulation; receptor endocytosis processes; structural characterization of oncogenic proteins using proteomic approaches.
Laboratory Leadership: Established and directs the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory for Omics Research at the Canadian Centre for Rural and Agricultural Health. Develops mass spectrometry-based methodologies for biomarker discovery and protein interaction mapping.
Key Discoveries: Identified p85 regulatory functions for PTEN tumor suppressor activity and characterized CREB3L1 as critical metastasis suppressor lost in aggressive breast and lung carcinomas. Current work focuses on therapeutic targeting of metastasis pathways.
