Deboleena Roy is Vice Dean of Faculty and Divisional Dean of Sciences at Emory University, holding dual professorships in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS). Her work bridges natural sciences and humanities through feminist science studies, postcolonial theory, and reproductive justice advocacy. She earned her PhD in reproductive neuroendocrinology from the University of Toronto and has been at Emory since 2009.
Education: PhD in Reproductive Neuroendocrinology and Molecular Biology from the University of Toronto's Institute of Medical Science.
Research focuses on interdisciplinary frameworks connecting neuroscience with feminist theory, postcolonial critiques, and molecular biology. Key themes include feminist approaches to scientific practice, decolonizing science education, and the political dimensions of reproductive health. Her 2018 monograph Molecular Feminisms explores how feminist theory can transform laboratory practices.
Her recent publications address postcolonial feminist STS pedagogy, environmental justice in disaster contexts, and pandemic-era coalition-building in science. She directs a research lab (http://wgss.emory.edu/RoyLab/) focusing on intersectional science studies.
