Debby Cotton is a Visiting Professor at the Peninsula Dental School (Faculty of Health), University of Plymouth. She serves in the University’s Senior Leadership Team, overseeing educational development strategies, pedagogic research, and institutional policies. Her roles include managing the Teaching and Learning Support team, coordinating TEF preparations, and leading initiatives like the Pedagogic Research Institute and Observatory (PedRIO). She holds National Teaching Fellow (2015) and multiple University Teaching Fellow awards.
Her research focuses on pedagogic innovation, sustainability education, and academic integrity. Key interests include action research methodologies, the teaching-research nexus, and embedding interdisciplinary learning. She actively contributes to sustainability initiatives through campus greening projects and energy literacy programs.
Dr. Cotton supervises PhD students across faculties and serves as an external examiner for numerous universities globally. Her work bridges policy and practice, emphasizing research-informed teaching and the hidden curriculum's role in sustainability education. Ongoing projects include exploring AI’s impact on assessments and decarbonization strategies in higher education.
