Debby Cotton is a Professor of Higher Education and Dean of Research and Knowledge Exchange at the University of Plymouth. She leads strategic research initiatives, coordinates REF submissions, and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration. Her research focuses on sustainability education, behavior change, and higher education policy. She holds a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford and a BSc from the University of East Anglia. Awards include National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her teaching expertise spans pedagogic research, sustainability pedagogies, and research management. She has supervised over 10 PhD students and serves on editorial boards of journals like International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education. Key grants include the Student-Led Knowledge Exchange (SLKE) project funded by Research England and the Office for Students.
Her recent work addresses AI in education, energy literacy, and internationalization strategies. She chairs the Research and KE Committee and contributes to national panels like the REF Pilot and Office for Students' AI advisory group.
