Debbie Swann is a Senior Lecturer of Theatre at Colorado State University (CSU), affiliated with the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance within the College of Liberal Arts. She holds a B.A. in Theatre and English from Kansas State University and an M.A. in Theatre from Texas State University, with additional training at England’s Shakespeare Center, Academy of Dramatic Art, and Royal Shakespeare Company.
Her teaching focuses on Shakespearean studies and Introduction to Theatre, complemented by her textbook The Art of Entertainment: An Introduction to Theatre, adopted by CSU. She has directed notable productions at CSU, including How I Learned to Drive, and collaborated with Kaiser Permanente on the touring production The Amazing Food Detective.
Active in the Fort Collins theatre community, Swann directs and performs with OpenStage Theatre and Company, earning an OpenStage OPUS Award for Spring Awakening and a Henry nomination for Don’t Dress for Dinner. Her directing credits span classical works like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Tartuffe, alongside contemporary pieces such as Godspell and Avenue Q.
Swann’s expertise bridges academic instruction and professional theatre practice, emphasizing collaborative education and community engagement through performance.
