Deanna Varley is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Matilda Centre, University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health. She holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Queensland, where she also earned a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours and University Medal for Academic Excellence.

Her research focuses on social, developmental, and clinical psychology, examining how early life experiences like adversity and trauma influence mental health through emotion regulation mechanisms. Key interests include compassion-based interventions, depression, anxiety, and the social determinants of health.
She has been awarded grants including:
- 'Enduring risks, everyday stressors: Mapping the interaction of stable and dynamic factors in depression and suicidality in young people' (2025)
- 'Creating consistency: Developing a common metric for cross-scale mental health data comparison in treatment-seeking young people'
Deanna supervises honours, master's, and PhD students in areas related to her research interests. She is affiliated with the Matilda Centre’s mental health research programs.
