Deann Petitgout

Deann Petitgout, MA, serves as the Dean of Academic Affairs and is actively involved in higher education, teaching courses such as Research in Athletic Training and Cornerstone I/II. She holds advanced qualifications in kinesiology and physical education, with a strong foundation in psychology and biology.

Her educational background includes:

• Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Biology from Clarke College (1999)
• Master of Science in Education in Kinesiology and Physical Education, specialization in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Northern Illinois University (2001)

Deann's teaching philosophy emphasizes meeting individual student needs and fostering lifelong learning. Her expertise lies in athletic training, sport psychology, and experiential education, informed by extensive professional certification and practice.

She is certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification and is a Licensed Athletic Trainer in Iowa. Her professional memberships include the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association, and Illinois Athletic Trainers’ Association, reflecting long-standing commitment since 1997. She is also an American Red Cross instructor in CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.

Her work integrates clinical athletic training with academic leadership, contributing to curriculum development and student success in health sciences and general education.
