Dr. Dean Yimlamai is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Pediatric Hepatology Research at Yale School of Medicine. He specializes in pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology, focusing on liver disease mechanisms including regeneration, tumor formation, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MAFLD). His research integrates mouse models, biochemistry, and patient data to uncover therapeutic targets for liver diseases.
Education: MD/PhD from Tufts University School of Medicine (2006), MS and BS in Biochemistry from UC Riverside (1995/1996). Clinical training at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Research mentorship includes collaborations with leaders like Dr. Fernando Camargo (Hippo signaling) and Dr. Gerald Shulman (metabolic disease).
Key research areas include Hippo/YAP signaling pathways, lipid droplet cholesterol regulation in MAFLD, and liver regeneration factors. He leads the Yimlamai Lab, part of the Yale Liver Center and Molecular Medicine programs. Current projects explore lipid metabolism, fibrosis mechanisms, and regenerative therapies for pediatric liver disorders.
