Dean Bullen is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Geography and Geosciences at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of the Environment and Life Sciences. His academic roles include teaching and administrative duties, alongside research collaborations. He leads projects on pre- and post-Caledonian magmatism in Scotland/Shetland, erionite remote sensing, and Iapetus Ocean rifting dynamics. His research spans igneous petrology, plate tectonics, and planetary formation, with a focus on volcanic systems and geological hazards.
Research interests include subduction zone geodynamics, meteorite studies, and large igneous provinces. He collaborates with institutions like Ankara University, Hacettepe University, and the University of Milan-Bicocca. As a PhD supervisor, he guides students in geoscience disciplines. His work integrates field studies, geochemical analysis, and remote sensing techniques to advance understanding of Earth's structure and processes.
Dean’s contributions are rooted in the Crustal Evolution Group and the Centre for Applied Geosciences, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to environmental and geological challenges. His pilot studies on erionite detection via remote sensing highlight practical applications of geoscientific research.
