Professor Karsten Haase is Chair of Endogenous Geodynamics at the GeoCenter Northern Bavaria, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he has been a faculty member since January 2008. His research spans multiple institutions including the University of Kiel, Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, and Aarhus University, establishing him as a leading figure in geodynamics and volcanology.

Haase's research focuses on the fundamental processes shaping Earth's interior and surface. His primary interests include continental rifting and associated volcanism, geodynamics and element transport at subduction zones, formation of SiO2-rich magmas and continental crust growth, and magma transport interactions with lithosphere and hydrosphere. His work integrates field observations, geochemical analysis, and geodynamic modeling to understand Earth's evolution.
Analysis of Haase's recent publications (2023-2025) reveals a strong focus on volcanic proxies in sediments, magmatic evolution during subduction initiation, boninitic lavas, global phosphorus cycle changes, volatile contents in back-arc systems, plume-ridge interactions, and hydrothermal systems. His research spans diverse geological settings including the Deccan Traps, Troodos Ophiolite, Tonga Arc, Antarctic Peninsula, and various large igneous provinces.
As leader of the Endogenous Geodynamics team, Haase collaborates with numerous researchers including Nils Baumann, Marcel Regelous, Manuel Keith, and Paul Sotiriou. His work has significant implications for understanding Earth's geological history, resource formation, and environmental impacts of volcanic activity.
