Edward W. Marshall IV is an IODP-DFG Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Chair of Endogenous Geodynamics at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, affiliated with the GeoCenter Northern Bavaria. His research spans planetary-scale processes like Earth's crust formation and global elemental cycling, as well as local-scale studies of volcanic magma systems.
His work focuses on magmatism in Iceland (Reykjanes Peninsula, Icelandic Plume) and the East African Rift, utilizing isotope geochemistry of the mantle to understand global-scale dynamics. Recent studies include the 2021–2025 eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula, magma storage in mid-crustal domains, and the role of recycled materials in mantle heterogeneity.
His publications highlight trends in volcanology, mantle geochemistry, and isotope systematics, often involving collaborations with institutions in Iceland and Germany. ResearchGate and Google Scholar links provide detailed access to his academic output.
Edward's team at the Chair of Endogenous Geodynamics works on unraveling volcanic dynamics through geochemical analysis, with a particular emphasis on real-time monitoring of eruptions and post-eruption petrological studies.
