DeLys Ostlund serves as the Associate Dean for Faculty and Professional Staff in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Portland State University, a role she has held since 2016. She is also a Professor in the Department of World Languages and Literatures, specializing in 17th-century Spanish theater and Cervantes studies. Holding a PhD from the University of Maryland and an MA from the University of Utah, her research focuses on critical editions and analysis of Spanish Golden Age plays, including works by Lope de Vega and Cervantes.
Her academic contributions include a critical edition of La Prueba de los Ingenios and publications exploring themes of power, gender, and historical adaptation in Spanish theater. She actively engages with local theater groups like Portland’s Miracle Theatre Group to bridge academic and community arts initiatives. Over her 30+ year tenure at PSU, she has championed faculty development and supported non-traditional students, reflecting her commitment to accessible education.
In advising and grants, she emphasizes faculty excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her work in Cervantes studies, particularly on Don Quixote, highlights her dedication to Spanish literary heritage. She remains an advocate for Oregon’s academic and cultural landscapes, having become a 'naturalized Oregonian' through her long-term involvement in the region.
