She teaches across both the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) and the Professional Policing Degree (PPD) programmes, bringing nearly five years of specialized experience in policing education and many additional years as a lecturer in Criminology.
Her research focuses on critical areas of crime prevention:
- Crime Prevention, particularly child sexual abuse prevention
- Public Health Approach to Crime Prevention
- Sex offender management
- Restorative justice
- Desistance from crime
- Vulnerability studies
Dawn is currently completing her PhD entitled 'An exploration of public perceptions towards early intervention strategies for people who identify as having a sexual interest in children: A mixed methods study' with submission due in October 2025. Her recent research includes an evaluation of a Friends and Family Forum for the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, exploring the psychological, emotional, physical and financial impact of indecent images of children offences on 'indirect victims' - children and non-offending partners.
Her two 2023 publications focus on the indirect harms of online child sexual abuse, representing important contributions to understanding how these offenses affect families of offenders and non-offending family members. This work demonstrates her commitment to examining the broader societal impacts of child sexual abuse material beyond the immediate victims.
Dawn teaches a comprehensive range of courses including Dissertation supervision, Understanding Vulnerability and Risk, Policing Society, The Politics of Policing, Contemporary Policing, Research Methods, Advanced Professional Practice in Policing, and Advanced Leadership and Development, providing students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in modern policing.
