Dawn Walsh is an Assistant Professor at the School of Politics and International Relations, University College Dublin, and Director of the Centre for Peace and Conflict. She contributes to the ARINS (Analysising Ireland North and South) Advisory Board and Public Opinion Research Group, focusing on evidence-based conflict resolution research. Her academic work bridges theoretical and practical dimensions of peacebuilding, with a strong focus on institutional design in post-conflict societies.

Her research explores institutional design in divided societies, particularly through power-sharing arrangements, gender inclusion in peace processes, and the implementation of peace agreements. She analyzes how international actors and local stakeholders can collaboratively build stable, inclusive governance structures that prevent conflict recurrence. Her recent work emphasizes the role of independent commissions in post-conflict settings, with a focus on their design and effectiveness.
Current research trends include a systematic analysis of commission design in over 630 peace agreements (1990–2018), focusing on power-sharing, gender quotas, and monitoring/verification mechanisms. She also investigates agonistic transitional justice and participatory constitutionalism in peacebuilding contexts.
