Dr. Dawn Higgins is a Lecturer in Psychology at Carlow College, specializing in applied research with marginalized populations, neuropsychology, and dementia care. She holds a PhD from Maynooth University (2024), an MSc from UCD (2018), and a BA from Maynooth University (2017). Her research focuses on dementia in Ireland’s Traveller Community and caregiver experiences during crises like the pandemic, supported by grants from the Irish Research Council and John and Pat Hume awards.
Her work bridges clinical practice and policy, addressing health inequities through collaborative projects with organizations like Exchange House Ireland and the Cork Traveller Visibility Group. She has presented at international conferences, including the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference and the International Neuropsychological Society, winning a 2017 award for best poster on caregiver dynamics.
Higgins has taught at UCD, Maynooth University, and DCU, and managed research projects at UCD and Trinity College targeting dementia reduction in specific populations. She actively contributes to professional bodies like the Psychological Society of Ireland and the Dementia and Neurodegenerative Network of Ireland.
