Dawn Brewer is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition at the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, University of Kentucky.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Georgia
- M.S. in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Georgia
- B.S. in Nutrition Science and Applied Nutrition from Penn State University
Dr. Brewer is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and Licensed Dietitian (LD) whose research focuses on community-engaged approaches to increase fruit and vegetable consumption. Her work employs interventions that operate at multiple levels of the Social Ecological Model for health behavior change, addressing nutrition challenges through comprehensive community-based strategies.
She serves as the Core Leader of the Community Engagement Core for the NIEHS-funded University of Kentucky Superfund Research Center, demonstrating her leadership in interdisciplinary research initiatives. Previously, she directed the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) for the department, showcasing her commitment to dietetics education.
Dr. Brewer is actively involved in professional organizations including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Kentucky Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health/Community Nutrition Practice Group, the Healthy Aging Practice Group, and the Nutrition Educators of Health Professionals.
She teaches several graduate courses including DHN 580: Introduction to Evidence Based Practice in Dietetics, DHN 600: Research Methods in Nutrition and Food Systems, and DHN 774: Seminar in Nutrition and Food Systems, contributing to the development of future nutrition professionals.
