Prof. Davide Ponzi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma, specializing in Cellular and Applied Biology. He holds a full-time academic position and teaches courses such as Applied Biology and Evolutionary Psychobiology across multiple degree programs, including Dentistry, Motor Sciences, and Psychology.
His research focuses on the biological bases of behavior, with a particular emphasis on steroid hormones and their roles in developmental processes. Key areas include the impact of endocrine disruptors on sexual differentiation, the effects of psychosocial stress on reproductive and stress systems, and the interplay between genetics, epigenetics, and hormonal factors in social behavior. His work employs ethopharmacological and epigenetic approaches, using drugs as probes to study social behavior and psychological disorders.
Recent studies explore how environmental and social factors during critical developmental periods influence vulnerability to metabolic and psychological disorders. Notable publications include investigations into social network accuracy in Dominican children and the role of endocrine disruptors in neurobehavioral development. His work has been published in high-impact journals such as Psychoneuroendocrinology and Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews.
Prof. Ponzi collaborates with international researchers and maintains an active research program supported by grants and institutional resources. His office is located at the Bioscience Complex in Parma, and he can be reached at davide.ponzi@unipr.it.
