LillyBelle Deer is an Assistant Professor in Developmental Psychology at the University of Utah's Department of Psychology, College of Social and Behavioral Science. She investigates prenatal and postnatal risk/resilience processes affecting biological systems and health outcomes across development.
Deer's research examines:
- Prenatal influences on HPA axis development and lifelong health
- Multilevel factors mediating stress-health relationships
- Biobehavioral pathways to cardiovascular health disparities
- Sensitive periods in developmental psychopathology
Her scholarly work demonstrates consistent focus on stress physiology measurement, particularly cortisol biomarkers and autonomic regulation, applied to understanding developmental trajectories of physical and mental health outcomes. Research methodologies integrate endocrine biomarkers, behavioral tasks, and longitudinal designs.
Deer received the NHLBI F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship and Early Career Poster Award from the International Society for Psychoneuroendocrinology. She mentors students in developmental psychobiology research and directs studies on prenatal programming of health outcomes.
