David Wofsy

David Wofsy, MD is a Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine, specializing in Rheumatology. He holds appointments in the Department of Medicine and contributes to the Bakar ImmunoX Initiative. His research focuses on autoimmune diseases, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis, with an emphasis on clinical trials, biomarker discovery, and novel immunotherapies.

Dr. Wofsy completed his medical residency at UCSF and holds a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Training certificate from the University of California. His work spans over four decades, with contributions to understanding SLE pathophysiology, developing diagnostic criteria, and advancing treatments like biologic therapies.

His research interests include the interplay between immunology and kidney disease, translational medicine, and leveraging proteomics/genomics for precision medicine. He has authored/co-authored over 200 publications in high-impact journals including Arthritis & Rheumatology and Nature Immunology.

Key awards include the Master of the American College of Rheumatology (2012) and Paul Klemperer Award (2011). He leads large-scale initiatives like the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) RA/SLE Network, fostering collaborative research to accelerate therapeutic development for autoimmune diseases.
