David Wilcockson is a Reader at Aberystwyth University’s Department of Life Sciences, specializing in biological clocks in marine organisms and crustacean endocrinology. He leads the Aquatic, Behavioural & Evolutionary Biology (ABEB) research group, focusing on molecular mechanisms of circatidal (~12.4h) and circadian (~24h) rhythms in intertidal animals like Eurydice pulchra and Talitrus saltator. His work, funded by BBSRC, MRC, and NERC, involves collaborations with University of Leicester, Bangor University, and Cambridge LMB.
His research spans chronobiology (clock genes), marine ecology (lobster habitat use in wind farms), endocrinology (bursicon in crustaceans), and behavioral biology (polarized light navigation). Recent articles highlight interactions between artificial light and migration, neuropeptide regulation of molting, and one health applications of circadian medicine.
Wilcockson has served as Principal Investigator on 11 externally funded projects (2013–2026), including studies on offshore wind farm habitats, dolphin conservation, and salmon smolt tracking. Media coverage includes BBC documentaries, Nature and Science News features, and policy references.
