معرفی
Professor David Weinkove is a Professor in the Department of Biosciences at Durham University. His research focuses on the nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans, studying host-microbe interactions, ageing mechanisms, and microbial folates. He leads the C. elegans research lab, investigating how bacterial metabolism influences host longevity and healthspan.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge
- PhD in Biochemistry from University College London (UCL), supervised by Mike Waterfield and Sally Leevers
- Postdoctoral research at the Hubrecht Laboratory and the Netherlands Cancer Institute
Research Interests:
- Ageing biology and its modulation by microbial interactions
- Role of folate metabolism in host-microbe dynamics
- Development of automated tools for large-scale ageing studies
- Translation of findings into therapies for immune system disorders
Key Projects:
- Co-founded Magnitude Biosciences to test longevity interventions using C. elegans models
- Developed techniques for automated healthspan measurement in worms
Awards and Roles:
- Chair of The British Society for Research on Ageing (2022–present)
Lab Members: Current team includes Adelaide Raimundo, Sushmita Maitra, and Giulia Zavagno, with past members contributing to diverse projects on microbiota, ageing, and drug discovery.
