Dr. David Vawter is a Professor in Middle Level and Social Studies Education at the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences, Winthrop University. He serves as the Teaching Fellows Programming Coordinator and has been actively involved in teacher preparation and professional development for 25 years at Winthrop.
- Education: Ph.D. from University of Virginia, M.Ed. from University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and B.S. from Oregon State University.
Dr. Vawter specializes in teacher education, focusing on middle school pedagogy, block scheduling, differentiation, brain-compatible teaching, and classroom management. His work emphasizes supporting educators in high-poverty contexts and adapting instruction in a post-pandemic educational landscape.
He has delivered over 850 presentations across 47 states and provinces, blending research with practical strategies. His professional service includes a presidency in the South Carolina Professors of Middle Level Education and a Faculty in Residence role at Sullivan Middle School.
