David Van Vranken

David Van Vranken is a Professor and Associate Dean in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He leads the Van Vranken Group, which focuses on advancing organic synthesis through chemoinformatic tools for reaction prediction and developing novel synthetic methods. His research integrates deep learning to predict reaction mechanisms and products, alongside the creation of transition-metal-catalyzed reactions for bioactive compound synthesis.

Key areas of exploration include carbenylative insertion processes, such as palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions generating vinylsilanes and amino acids. The group’s work aims to streamline the synthesis of complex natural products and pharmaceutical agents. Dr. Van Vranken also contributes to educational initiatives, including organic chemistry lectures and co-authoring textbooks.
