Prof. Martin Tomanik is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at New York University, affiliated with the College of Arts & Science. His research focuses on total synthesis of complex natural products and development of novel synthetic methods addressing molecular complexity and selectivity challenges. Key interests include metal-catalyzed transformations, C–H functionalization, and biological evaluation of synthesized compounds.
Education: B.A. in Chemistry from Dartmouth College (undergraduate), Ph.D. in Chemistry from Yale University (doctoral), and postdoctoral research at The Scripps Research Institute.
Research interests emphasize synthesizing bioactive natural products with therapeutic potential and creating innovative catalytic methods to streamline synthesis. Recent work explores copper- and palladium-catalyzed reactions for constructing complex molecules. The Tomanik Group at NYU’s Silver Center investigates synthetic strategies for drug discovery and fundamental organic chemistry challenges.
Publications highlight achievements in lactone synthesis, spirocyclic ether formation, and myrocin G’s role in DNA repair inhibition. The lab actively pursues undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers through direct contact.
