Dr. David Van Reyk is a Senior Lecturer in Pathophysiology at the School of Life Sciences, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He has held this position since 2000 and has contributed significantly to research in environmental health, oxidative stress, and educational pedagogy. His roles include Director of Student Mobility and Engagement (2015–2020) and involvement in Indigenous Education initiatives. His research focuses on the impacts of environmental toxins (e.g., PM2.5, e-cigarette vapour) on health, particularly neurodevelopmental and pulmonary effects, with a strong emphasis on sex-dependent outcomes. He has also pioneered experiential learning methods in undergraduate science education, such as simulation-based case studies. His work bridges biomedical research and educational strategy, reflecting a commitment to both scientific discovery and pedagogical innovation.
Key research contributions include studies on maternal exposure to air pollutants, mechanisms of oxidative stress in atherosclerosis, and cross-cultural comparisons of remote learning during the pandemic.
