Dr. David Surratt is a Distinguished Lecturer at the University of Oklahoma (OU), holding positions as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. He leads student affairs programs across OU's campuses in Norman, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Arezzo, Italy. His expertise spans student-centered leadership, multiculturalism, crisis management, and advocacy.
Education: Earned a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University, alongside bachelor's (English Literature) and master's (Human Relations) degrees from OU.
Research/Experience: Specializes in student activism, professional development, and institutional leadership. Previously held roles at UC Berkeley (2013-2019) as Assistant Vice Chancellor, interim Dean of Students, and interim Associate Vice Chancellor. At Berkeley, he managed housing, Greek Life, sexual assault advocacy, and protest management. Earlier, he served as Dean of Students at Rosemont College, overseeing student life during its transition to coeducation.
Professional Recognition: Keynote speaker at NASPA's 2018 National Convention (Philadelphia) and student speaker at George Washington University's 2014 Commencement. Active in organizations like NASPA, ACPA, and ASCA.
Labs/Teams: Oversees OU's Student Affairs division, including programs on leadership, wellbeing, and campus engagement. Developed curricula for scholar athletes as part of Berkeley's Chancellor’s Task Force on Academics & Athletics.
