David Rossati is an Assistant Professor of International Law in the Department of Transnational Legal Studies at the Faculty of Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He holds academic roles in the Kooijmans Institute, Law & Technology, and Boundaries of Law. His research focuses on international climate change law, climate governance, and the intersection of climate and economic law. He is a co-founder and director of the VU Climate Change & Sustainability Law Clinic and coordinates the LLM International Business Law - Trade and Investment track.
Rossati earned his PhD and LLM in Public International Law from the University of Edinburgh, where he taught climate change law for six years as a visiting lecturer. Before joining VU in 2020, he was a Lecturer in Law at the University of Salford. He advises NGOs on climate finance and is a UNFCCC roster expert.
His research explores legal challenges in climate negotiations, carbon market mechanisms, and climate finance equity. Recent work includes studies on blockchain applications in carbon markets and juridification in development finance. He has published widely on climate justice, institutional dynamics, and sustainable development.
Rossati has received the Full College Award (Studentship) from the University of Edinburgh (2010). He teaches courses on international law, climate change sustainability, and transnational legal frameworks. He actively participates in international conferences and collaborates with institutions like the Amsterdam Centre for Climate Change and the Law.
