Dr. David Paneque is a Senior Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Germany. His research focuses on extreme astrophysical phenomena such as pulsars, gamma-ray bursts, and active galactic nuclei, with a particular emphasis on dark matter and axion-like particle detection through gamma-ray observations. He is a key contributor to the MAGIC, Fermi-LAT, and CTA collaborations, leading instrumentation development and multi-messenger studies. Paneque has over 420 publications, including 6 in Nature and 26 in Science, with a h-index of 121.
He holds visiting professor roles at the University of Tokyo (2019) and has led major observational campaigns on blazars like Mrk 421 and Mrk 501. His work integrates multi-frequency data to understand cosmic accelerators. Notable awards include the Bruno Rossi Prize (2011) and the Otto Hahn Medal (2005).
Pioneering contributions include the Fermi-LAT and MAGIC telescope projects, with over 100 students and collaborators. His research bridges particle physics and astrophysics, advancing our understanding of high-energy cosmic processes.
