Paolo Giommi is a Senior Scientist at the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and a Hans Fischer Senior Fellow at the Technical University of Munich (TUM-IAS). He holds adjunct professor roles at ICRANet and is a core member of the International Relativistic Astrophysics PhD program. His research focuses on extragalactic astrophysics, blazar studies, and multi-messenger astronomy, particularly linking gamma-ray bursts, neutrinos, and cosmic rays with blazar activity.
Education includes a physics degree from the University of Milan and postdoctoral roles at Harvard-Smithsonian and ESA. He led the BeppoSAX Science Data Center and directed ASI's Science Data Center (ASDC) until 2016. Current roles include coordinating the UN's 'Open Universe' initiative and China-Italy space collaboration projects.
His work bridges observational and theoretical astrophysics, with key contributions to blazar spectral energy distribution modeling and neutrino source identification. Awards include the Bruno Rossi Prize (2011, 2012) for work with major space missions and recognition as a highly cited researcher (2014-2016).
Key projects include the 3HSP blazar catalogue and analyses linking IceCube neutrinos with blazar populations. He collaborates internationally on missions like Fermi, Swift, and AGILE, emphasizing multi-messenger strategies to solve cosmic particle origin mysteries.
