David P. Wolfer is an Associate Professor at both the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). He holds positions at the Institute of Anatomy (UZH) and the Institute of Human Movement Sciences and Sport (ETHZ). His research focuses on the biological basis of cognitive function in normal and diseased brains, using mice as animal models to develop novel methods for analyzing cognitive performance.
Education:
- MD from University of Zurich (1988)
- Postdoctoral research at the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, University of Rochester, NY, USA
- Independent research group leader at UZH’s Institute of Anatomy (1992–2005)
- Venia legendi in Anatomy (1998)
Research Interests: David investigates neural mechanisms underlying cognition, with a focus on neurological disorders. His work emphasizes ethologically relevant approaches to model cognitive deficits in mice, bridging basic neuroscience and translational medicine.
Funding: Supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and EU projects (EUROSPIN and MODELMOOD under FP7).
Lab/Team: Leads research groups at both UZH and ETHZ, focusing on cognitive neuroscience and translational neurobiology.
