David Nowell Smith

David Nowell Smith is Professor of Poetics and Aesthetics at the University of East Anglia's School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing. His academic background includes a PhD in Poetry and Poetics from Cambridge University (2010), an MA from King's College London (2005), and a BA from Cambridge (2003).

Research examines fundamental concepts of poetics including:

• Voice and oral traditions
• Temporal structures in poetry
• Media representations of verse
• Philosophical frameworks for literary analysis

Current projects include a study of public broadcasting's impact on poetry reception and the historical relationship between lyric poetry and communication technologies.
