Dr David Morris is a Research Fellow and Editor at Afterall (Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London). He holds a PhD from University of the Arts London, an MA from the Royal College of Art, and a BA from King's College London. His work bridges art criticism, curatorial practice, and cultural theory, focusing on exhibition design, political activism in art, and transnational art networks. Morris co-edited key publications such as Schizo-Culture: The Event, The Book (2014) and Artist-to-Artist: Independent Art Festivals in Chiang Mai 1992–98 (2018). His recent research explores precarious solidarity in 20th-century art movements and digital exhibition formats. He co-leads the MRes Art: Exhibition Studies program at Central Saint Martins.
Research interests include underground art spaces (e.g., Soviet APTART), pan-African curatorial strategies, and the intersection of art with political resistance. His articles analyze topics like festival methodologies, virtual exhibitions, and Soviet-era artistic networks. Morris has secured grants for initiatives such as the 'Writing Modern and Contemporary Art in Southeast Asia' program (British Academy, 2021–2025), fostering regional academic collaboration.
