David Mitlin is the David Allen Cockrell Endowed Professor in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He previously held positions as Professor and General Electric Chair at Clarkson University and as Assistant/Associate/Full Professor at the University of Alberta. His research focuses on advanced materials for energy storage systems, particularly batteries and electrochemical interfaces. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles and holds 5 granted U.S. patents with 9 pending, all licensed or previously licensed.
Education: Ph.D. in Materials Science (UC Berkeley, 2000), M.S. (Penn State, 1996), B.S. (RPI, 1995).
Research Interests: Development of novel materials for high-performance batteries (Li, Na, K), solid-state electrolytes, interfacial engineering, and sustainable energy storage. Key areas include graphene-based materials, sodium/sulfur battery cathodes, and anode-free battery designs.
Recent articles highlight advancements in sodium metal anode stability, solid electrolyte interphases, and high-capacity battery materials. His work emphasizes practical applications in clean energy systems.
