معرفی
David McMillan is a Reader in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Faculty of Engineering. His work bridges advanced statistical and decision modeling with practical applications in renewable energy systems, particularly offshore wind.
His research interests center on Reliability Analysis, Decision Analysis, Probabilistic Modelling, and Applied Statistics, applied to Wind Energy, Asset Management, Energy Policy, and Energy Security. He also explores Reliability Engineering, Operation and Maintenance Modelling, and Wind Turbine Safety Systems.
His recent publications (2023–2024) reflect a strong focus on offshore wind operations, safety, and maintenance, with an emphasis on floating wind turbines, LIDAR-assisted control, and health and safety (H&S) frameworks. These works integrate statistical modeling with real-world engineering challenges to improve reliability and reduce operational costs.
He has received recognition including the Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards: Multi–Party Collaboration Award (2016).
McMillan has led and collaborated on numerous research projects, often as Principal Investigator, such as Predictive Maintenance for Offshore Wind Turbines and Ocean ORACLES. He has secured funding from industry and public bodies, demonstrating strong grant acquisition skills. He is actively involved in knowledge exchange and policy-relevant research.
He contributes to the academic community through editorial roles on journals like Wind Energy and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, and has organized major conferences including the Wind Energy Science Conference 2021 and the COP26 Innovation Showcase.
