معرفی
Dr. Marcin Kapitaniak is a Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen, where he conducts research in nonlinear dynamics, offshore renewable energy systems, and structural mechanics. His work bridges theoretical modeling, numerical simulation, and experimental validation, with a strong focus on floating offshore wind turbines, drill-string dynamics, and subsea infrastructure.
His research interests include:
- Nonlinear dynamics of mechanical and marine systems
- Floating offshore wind turbine design and mooring
- Drill-string vibration and control
- Finite element analysis of structural systems
- Hydrogen effects on pipeline integrity
- Marine anchoring and towing systems
The recent publications (2023–2025) reflect a strong trend toward offshore renewable energy, particularly floating wind technologies. Key themes include shallow-draft turbine dynamics, mooring system optimization, variable buoyancy anchors, and operational feasibility of maintenance using floating cranes. A significant portion of earlier work focuses on nonlinear vibrations in drilling systems, including stick-slip control and helical buckling, often using advanced finite element and experimental methods. His interdisciplinary work spans mechanical, petroleum, and marine engineering.
His scientific contributions are supported by numerous competitive grants from EPSRC, ORE Catapult, Interface, and industry partners. Notable projects include:
- Virtual prototyping of anchorage areas for floating wind
- Optimization of towing configurations for floating wind anchors
- Development of digital models for the UK Continental Shelf
- Simulations of floating offshore wind turbines
- Risk-based inspection of offshore pipelines for energy transition
Dr. Kapitaniak actively supervises several research students, including MR MUAZU MUAZU, ALASTAIR RAMSAY, CRAIG MACNAMARA, and others, across topics in offshore engineering and dynamics. He is also involved in collaborative labs and research teams focused on energy systems, including the EPSRC Supergen ORE Hub and the National Decommissioning Centre. His work contributes to both academic advancement and industrial application in the energy sector.
