Dr David McCallam is a Reader in French Eighteenth-Century Studies at the School of Languages, Arts and Societies, University of Sheffield. His research spans the French Enlightenment, French Revolution, and environmental humanities, with a focus on geological and meteorological phenomena in eighteenth-century Europe.

His work bridges literature, history, and environmental studies, including studies on volcanoes, avalanches, and clouds as cultural symbols.
