David Matthews is a Senior Lecturer and Practice Education Lead for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy at the University of Worcester's School of Health and Wellbeing. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of London (2001), an MSc in Advanced Physiotherapy from King's College London (2011), a Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning from Cardiff University (2019), and is currently completing a PhD in Neuroscience and Motor Learning at the University of Birmingham (2023–ongoing).
His teaching focuses on inclusive, student-centered approaches, with expertise in designing placement-based learning experiences and promoting diversity in student training. He has led programme re-accreditation, module development, and practice education initiatives. Prior to academia, David spent 14 years as an NHS physiotherapist specializing in musculoskeletal care, later transitioning to Cardiff University's School of Healthcare Sciences in 2015, where he contributed to placement education and teaching innovation.
Research interests align with his clinical background and academic work, emphasizing neuroscience applications in motor learning, and optimizing practice-based educational models. His PhD explores these intersections further. Professional leadership roles include coordinating inter-professional practice education and advocating for equitable student preparation across healthcare disciplines.
