David M. Loeb, MD, PhD, is Chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Cellular Therapy at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and a Professor of Pediatrics and Developmental and Molecular Biology at Montefiore Einstein. His clinical expertise centers on connective tissue tumors like bone and muscle sarcomas, as well as immunotherapy applications for childhood cancers.
- Education: BA in Biology (1987) from Johns Hopkins University; PhD in Pathology (1993) and MD (1994) from Columbia University.
Dr. Loeb’s research focuses on bone tumor metastasis, where his lab developed a clinically relevant mouse model to test novel anti-metastatic agents. His work explores metabolic differences between cancer and normal cells, the Wnt signaling pathway in sarcoma progression, and the role of RNA helicase DDX3 in DNA repair and sarcoma biology. Clinically, he investigates radiopharmaceutical therapies, DDX3 inhibitors, and reduced-intensity bone marrow transplantation protocols.
- Scientific Awards: Recipient of the Director’s Teaching Award in Clinical Science in 2006, 2010, and 2015; The Justin Straus Chordoma Research Award in 2009.
Primary Location: The Children's Hospital at Montefiore, Bronx, NY. Additional clinical sites include Montefiore at 1250 Waters Place and affiliated pediatric hematology-oncology facilities.
