David Liebermann

David Liebermann is Professor of Communication Design/Intermedial Design at Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy Halle, appointed effective October 1, 2024. Previously, he served as acting professor at the institution from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024. He teaches alongside Prof. Jana Reddemann in the Communication Design program, with office located in the Campus Design Villa Annex, Room 006.

His educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Communication Design from the Universities of Mannheim and Mainz, followed by a Master's degree in Graphic Design under Prof. Ingo Offermanns at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts (HFBK). During his Master's studies, he co-founded the design studio Liebermann Kiepe, focusing on experimental web design.

• Co-founded Liebermann Kiepe Reddemann design studio in 2019 with Jana Reddemann and Maximilian Kiepe
• Collaborates with major cultural institutions including HFBK Hamburg, HafenCity University Hamburg, Kunstraum Leuphana Lüneburg, and Deichtorhallen Hamburg

Liebermann's teaching methodology promotes a cross-media design approach that encourages students to critically examine the complex interactions between technology, society, and culture. His current courses for Summer Semester 2025 focus on developing students' design competence through project-based learning, with particular attention to language as an essential tool in design practice and the integration of AI technologies. He emphasizes preparing students for the social and ethical challenges of the digital world while developing critical understanding of digital culture dynamics.

His research and practice spans publishing systems (analog, hybrid, digital), typography, social media design, and the evolving relationship between design and artificial intelligence. Liebermann is involved in the Indiecon Selfpublishing Festival in Hamburg, exploring future publishing models through student collaborations.
