David L. Chappell is a Professor in the Department of History at the University of Oklahoma. His work focuses on human rights, social movements, African-American history, economic history, and intellectual history, with a particular emphasis on the civil rights movement and economic power dynamics in U.S. history.

Chappell's research explores how public understanding of complex societal issues emerges through historical events, as seen in his books and recent article on Martin Luther King Jr.'s strategic approaches.
