David Karlander is an Associate Professor in Nordic Languages at Uppsala University and a Visiting Researcher at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS). His research focuses on linguistic thought systems, particularly the creation and use of constructed languages (e.g., Esperanto, Interlingua) in 20th-century academic linguistics, supported by a Riksbankens Jubileumsfond Pro Futura XVII Scientia grant (2023–2028). He also explores topics such as European and Swedish minority language policy, the linguistics and politics of Älvdalskan, and late modern graffiti.
- Education: M.A. from Uppsala University (2011), Ph.D. from Stockholm University (2017)
His recent publication, The art and politics of micronational language planning (2025), examines how constructed languages intersect with sociopolitical agendas and academic discourse. This work aligns with broader themes in language policy, sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics.

- Marie Skłodowska Curie Junior Fellow
- Riksbankens Jubileumsfond Pro Futura XVII Scientia grant (2023–2028)
David has previously held positions as a permanent Senior Lecturer at Örebro University (2022–2023) and postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Hong Kong (2018–2021) and Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (2021–2022). His interdisciplinary work bridges linguistic theory, historical analysis, and sociopolitical critique.
