David Kairys is a Professor of Law at Temple University's Beasley School of Law, where he has made significant contributions to civil rights, constitutional law, and public interest legal scholarship. He held the James E. Beasley Chair from 2001 to 2007 and is recognized as one of the nation’s leading civil rights lawyers.
His research interests include civil rights, constitutional law, critical legal studies, and the intersection of law and social justice, particularly in the context of race, free speech, and gun violence. He has pioneered legal strategies such as public nuisance litigation against handgun manufacturers to address public safety concerns.
His scholarly output is extensive, with recent articles focusing on the history of civil rights, Supreme Court jurisprudence on race, the rule of law, and regulatory approaches to gun violence.
