Professor David Johnston teaches in the School of Arts, English and Languages at Queen's University Belfast, specializing in Modern Languages. His research integrates theatre, translation and performance through practice-based methodologies that bridge theoretical models and cultural praxis.
His work examines translation as creative practice, exploring cultural encounter through performance. Recent research focuses on accessibility technologies, including audio description systems for cultural institutions and universal access solutions. He has led international projects like Out of the Wings, making Spanish and Spanish American theatre accessible in translation.
Honors include multiple awards for radio dramas and theatrical translations. He currently supervises PhDs examining interpretation, representation, and embodied translation experiences.
