David Johnston is a distinguished Professor of Translation at Queen's University Belfast, where he serves as Director of Internationalisation for the School of Arts, English and Languages and Director of the Centre for Translation and Interpreting. His academic career spans over four decades, beginning with lectureships at various UK universities before his long-standing appointment at Queen's University.
His research centers around theatre, translation and performance, operating on the principle of practice-based research where theoretical models and cultural praxis mutually inform each other. Johnston views translation as a creative and re-creative practice that shapes contemporary Humanities while engaging with diverse historical and geographical contexts.
Johnston's recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on accessibility, museum studies, and the application of translation theory to real-world contexts. His work bridges academic research with practical applications in cultural institutions, particularly exploring how translation principles can enhance visitor experiences in museums and cultural spaces.
