David Eldridge is a Lecturer and Admissions Tutor for the BA Creative Writing program at the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication, Birkbeck, University of London. He is a prominent playwright and adapter, renowned for works like Beginning, Market Boy, and Festen. His theatre credits span major institutions including the National Theatre, Royal Court, and Shakespeare’s Globe. Eldridge’s television work includes Scandalous Lady W (BBC) and radio dramas such as The Picture Man, which won the Prix Europa. He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Exeter (2007). His research focuses on playwriting, dramatic adaptation, and modern theatre.
Eldridge’s academic contributions include teaching Introduction to Playwriting and supervising creative writing projects. His publications range from original plays (Middle, 2022) to adaptations of classic works.
