David H. Henard is a Professor of Marketing at North Carolina State University’s Poole College of Management. He previously held leadership roles as Marketing Area Coordinator, Director of International Programs, and Director of Graduate Programs in Global Innovation Management. His work spans both France and the U.S., reflecting his expertise in international business practices. Prior to academia, he worked in R&D, sales, and marketing at Philip Morris Companies (Altria), contributing to roles at Oscar Mayer and Kraft Foods.
Dr. Henard holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from Texas A&M University (2000). His research focuses on innovation and communication, particularly knowledge management in R&D environments and corporate communication strategies. His work has been cited over 4,000 times and funded by organizations like the Marketing Science Institute and Procter & Gamble. His publications span journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research and Journal of Product Innovation Management.
He teaches courses in marketing principles, negotiation, design thinking, and business relationship management at executive, graduate, and undergraduate levels. Notably, he is certified in Negotiation and Design Thinking from Harvard and USC. He has received multiple teaching awards, including membership in NC State’s Academy of Outstanding Teachers and the Andrew Heiskell Honorable Mention award for international practices.
His research explores innovation contests, crowdfunding dynamics, and the role of patents in signaling product innovativeness. He advises organizations on strategic marketing, reputation management, and sales-force strategies, leveraging insights from over 20 years of academic and industry experience.
