David Grubbs

David Grubbs is a Distinguished Professor at the Conservatory of Music, Brooklyn College, and a prominent figure in Music Technology, Sonic Arts, and Interdisciplinary Collaboration. He has released fifteen solo albums and appeared on over 200 commercial releases, blending Avant-garde Music, Sound Installation, and Experimental Composition.

• Education: B.A. in English (1989), M.A. in English (1991), Ph.D. in English (2005) from the University of Chicago.

Grubbs' research spans Music Technology, Musicology, and Sonic Arts, with a focus on Interdisciplinary Collaboration with artists like Anthony McCall and poets like Susan Howe. His creative work includes Sound Installation, Electroacoustic Composition, and Avant-garde Performance.

Recent publications (2023-2025) explore Sound Art, Experimental Music, and Interdisciplinary Themes. He received the Berlin Prize (2024-25) and a Grants to Artists award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.

Grubbs directs the Blue Chopsticks record label and collaborates with institutions such as Pioneer Works, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and MIT List Visual Arts Center. He has held leadership roles on boards including Blank Forms and ISSUE Project Room.
