Robin Parmar is an Associate Professor at the University of Limerick (UL), holding dual roles in the Department of Computer Science & Information Systems and the Digital Media Arts Research Centre (DMARC). He specializes in soundscape studies, electroacoustic music, and sonic arts theory, with a focus on interdisciplinary practice blending composition, installation, and performance. His academic leadership includes directing the BSc in Music, Media and Performance Technology and serving as Vice-President of the Irish Science, Sound, and Technology Association (ISSTA).
Education: PhD in Sonic Creativity from De Montfort University (2019). Research interests span field recording methodologies, acoustic ecology, and the intersection of digital technologies with artistic practice. Key contributions include his handbook Listening to Places (2022), exploring environmental composition through practical exercises.
Publications (2015–2023) emphasize critiques of digital art practices, the Anthropocene’s sonic dimensions, and granular synthesis theory. Awards include residencies and showcases such as the Invisible Places residency (2017) and national exhibitions like Just Listening – Ireland Calling (2011). His artistic output includes thirteen albums, sound installations, and experimental films, often interrogating themes of place, nature, and technological mediation.
